Meet our Farm Family

Welcome to Spit Happens Farm Sanctuary!

We currently provide sanctuary to 18 llamas and alpacas, 7 mini-donkeys and a pony, plus a variety of poultry.  Our goal for the animals is to allow them to just “live” (or “llive” as the llamas would say) in a safe, enjoyable, care-free environment.  We strive to provide all of our animals with the comfort and love they deserve.  Their joy and contentment is ours.

Llamas and Alpacas

Our family of 18 llamas and alpacas range in age from 2 to 22.    They are the most joyful animals.  Each has his/her personality and together, they make a loving family.  Our adventure with these beautiful animals started with two – Oakie and Cocoa.  Oakie is the handsome face of our logo.  Oakie and Cocoa were soon joined by Chestnut, Cinnamon, and Buttercup.  We then rescued 7 alpacas from a fate that was unimaginable and together with the llamas, our “llamapaca” family was created when Cruz, Maestro, Sebastien, JT, Ivy, Brigadette and Calista joined the herd.  Sadly, Cruz passed away a few years ago, but his memory remains strong.  Hershey, Wafer, Nilla, Verdolet, Cranberry, Sundae and Teddy round out the family.  If you ever need to smile, you only need to look into the sweet face of a llamapaca.  Your day will be made.

Mini-donkeys and equines.

Today the farm is home to 7 mini-donkeys:  Mabel, Harley-Rose, Mr. Pebbles, Pearl, Donovan, Tucker and Pippa.  We are also home to Roxalina, a/k/a Roxie, a beautiful Paso Fino.   Mabel was our first mini-donkey, and when she arrived, as a wonderful surprise to us, she was pregnant with Harley-Rose.  6 days before Harley-Rose was born, Mr. Pebbles, or Mr. P as we affectionately call him, joined our family.  The three were the cutest little family until Pearl was saved from an auction truck.  Donovan and Tucker grew up together on a lovely farm in Vermont but when their owner could no longer care for them, were adopted to us through another rescue.  At almost 25 years of age, they are our oldest residents, and bring us incredible joy with their sweet, gentlemanly personalities.  Pippa is a little spit-fire, and while she prefers to keep to herself, the moments when she lets you in just warms your heart.  And last but not least, Roxie joined the family almost 2 years ago.  In the sweetest little twist of fate, she and Mr. P have become inseparable, and there’s nothing cuter than seeing the two of them constantly by each other’s side.

"Other Farm Kids"

In addition the llamapacas and minis, our farm is comprised of a few guinea hens, several ducks (rescues), approximately 20 chickens (also some rescued) and a goose named Dudley, who has been the farm mascot for 20 years!  He’s a character, and his stories are plentiful!
